Job Title Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Entrepreneurship

Purpose
To design, develop and deliver course modules in entrepreneurship and small business management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and engage in other academic, research and commercial activities to meet the needs and objectives of the Department.
Principal Accountabilities
Teach entrepreneurship and small business management to meet the faculty's academic requirements.
Undertake research and contribute to the Department's research publications.
Complete administration related to courses and programmes.
Assist with programme tutorship and student counselling.
Assist with curriculum development.
Liaise with professional institutions and industrial and commercial clients and customers.
Undertake other duties as reasonably requested by the Dean or Head of Department as required.
Dimensions
The Department is the result of a recent re-organisation of the Business School and has 20 full-time members of staff and 5 Research students. These include three Professors (two in entrepreneurship, although one is to be appointed) and a Research Fellow. There is a Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship and the Dean also has an academic interest in entrepreneurship. Because of further developments in this area there is a need to strengthen the entrepreneurship and small business team. The Department is responsible for a range of programmes:

The Department is also responsible for CIPD programmes and the very successful DBA programme. It is currently developing a distance learning version of the MBA programme. Many staff are research active, having made a major contribution to the 3a grade received in the recent Research Assessment Exercise in Business and Management. Within the Department are areas of national and international research excellence particularly in the domains of research methods, personal construct theory and reward systems.
The Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies is also within the Department. It has growing reputation in the region and increasing nationally and internationally and attracts substantial grants for research from various agencies including the East of England Development Agency, LEONARDO and other EU sources. It also carries out consultancy work for SMEs in the region. Several staff are involved in a project to foster enterprise in the community, particularly among ethnic minority groups.
As well as carrying out a variety of consultancy projects the department is also an active participant in the DTI's Teaching Company Scheme and has been invited to participate in the national competition on a number of occasions. The University also offers a range of programmes to SMEs, supported by the EU/Government. These include: Toolkits - workshops on competitiveness; WEBstep - developing internet and e-commerce skills; LeB - foreign language training courses for e-business; Atlas - supported virtual language learning; Law for Life - on-line legal training package; Pheonix - e-business for women; Griffin - certificate in engineering product management.
Nature and Scope
Employment is on a full-time contract, although applications from individuals who wish to undertake these roles on a part-time basis alongside continuing involvement with business will be welcomed.
The appointee will be expected to carry out up to 550 hours of teaching contact per year, which may include evening, Saturday or summer work within national or local agreements. However, most staff have a varied workload including supervision of projects and dissertations, research projects and allowances.
The person appointed will be expected to provide specialist teaching on the modules provided by the Department to the University's undergraduate and postgraduate modular schemes. Teaching will be required at a variety of levels. Team teaching is common, and the ability to work effectively within a team is essential. A further qualification in education is not essential, although the interpersonal and communication skills necessary for the post will already be well developed. Institute of Learning and Teaching membership is encouraged.
Involvement in a number of course or programme teams will be required, to assist with the administration and evaluation of current delivery and the development of new curriculum material.
The appointee must have an academic background in entrepreneurship and small business management. A relevant Masters degree or equivalent is essential, as is a research track record. Consultancy experience would be a distinct advantage.
