INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND LEARNING'

JUNE 21 TO 24, 2001

NAPOLI , ITALY

ORGANISED BY FEDERICO II UNIVERSITY OF NAPLES AND THE ENTERPRISE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, BUSINESS SCHOOL, UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL ENGLAND

PROPOSAL AND CALL FOR PAPERS

The Enterprise Research and Development Centre, (ERDC) Business School, University of Central England and Federico II University of Naples (FUN), are jointly sponsoring the 1st Conference of the International Entrepreneurship Forum, in Naples and Capri, Italy. The conference is scheduled to take place on June 21 to 24, 2001.

The conference follows the first successful launch in October, 2000, of the International Entrepreneurship Forum by the ERDC in Birmingham, United Kingdom, which involved the participation of 14 different countries and institutions deliberating with a wide audience of small and medium sized enterprises, policy and decision makers, and educationists, on matters relating to entrepreneurship development, research and education. A key conclusion of this Forum was the need to address issues that underpin and define entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial process so that there is a better understanding of its role in identifying opportunity, creating wealth, and changing mind sets. Consequently, one major proposal of the Forum was to hold the first international conference to share current research and information in the field of entrepreneurship and its relationship with learning.

The conference will have two strands. Strand One will focus on issues specific to entrepreneurship and how it informs, engenders and supports learning for the individual and in the organisation (small, medium and large). Strand Two will be concerned with learning and how the learning process underpins and defines entrepreneurial people, organisations and environments. To this end papers are welcome on any one of the following topics:

Entrepreneurship Learning * Entrepreneurial Mind Sets * Entrepreneurial People * Entrepreneurial Processes * Entrepreneurial Organisations * Entrepreneurial Environment * Collective Entrepreneurship * Social Entrepreneurship * Regional Entrepreneurship * Individual Learning and Personal Development * Organisational Learning * Collective Learning * Learning and Competitiveness * Learning and Change * Learning and Knowledge * Entrepreneurial Learning

Submissions may follow any one strand but are expected to make the links between the two either conceptually or through systematic empirical evidence and case studies. Preference will be given to papers that demonstrate evidence of application of theory in practice either by means of endorsement by practitioners or through joint authorship with owner-managers, policy makers and/or other practitioners. The Scientific Committee actively encourages the link between theory and practice and between problem solving

and conceptualisation. Interdisciplinary work is also supported.

The ERDC and the IEF are currently negotiating with key publishers to

consider selected submissions (refereed track) for publication in refereed

journals.

Attendance at the conference is strongly recommended for academics, business owner-managers and CEOs of large firms, policy makers, and representatives of non-profit making organisations. Attendance can take 2 routes. The first route is submission of a research paper and the second route is for 'non-authors' who wish to either hold workshops or take an active part in leading/supporting discussion groups, which will form part of all sessions.

A number of distinguished international academics, including Professor Zoltan Acs from the USA and Professor Allan Gibb from the UK, business representatives and policy makers have already agreed to speak and take part at the conference.

The conference format will include panel-based plenary sessions, presentations of research papers followed by discussion groups of 'non-authors', and workshops on practice-oriented issues. Visits to a select number of business support agencies and other cultural/social programmes in the beautiful city of Naples and the island of Capri will also form part of the conference

The conference fee will be £250 plus VAT. This fee will cover the cost of attendance for the 2-day conference in Naples, lunch on both days. Accommodation, travel and subsistence costs will not be covered by this fee.
