1. Introduction

1.1. The 11th International Technology Forum will be held in Bangalore, India, from November 25 -28, 2001 in the Silicon Plateau of Bangalore, in India. The broad, overarching theme for the conference is ‘ICT Entrepreneurship: Managing Innovation and New Venture Creation Using Information and Communications Technologies’..

    1. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) play a key role today in spawning new ideas, methods, processes, products and organisational change. ICT underpins the use and application of many other technologies, allows for the interconnectedness between varying skills and organisations, and is often the primary resource for new venture creation. The conference theme reflects this multidimensional role and impact of ICT, and is in keeping with the cutting edge discourse and networking activities of the International Forum. The message is in the technology

  1. The International Forum for Technology Management

2.1. The International Forum for Technology Management (IFTM) is a global

network of key academics and industry practitioners involved in the generation, development, promotion and study of technology management within organisations. Their interests cover a wide range of critical issues relating to the subject of technology management, and the voluntary group of networkers meet once a year to share and exchange new knowledge and recent practice in the field, establishing both rapport and working links between researchers and practitioners in a dynamic environment. The Forum has met regularly over the past 10 years in different venues across the world, from Kyoto in Japan, Grenoble in France, Minneapolis in the USA and Vienna in Austria.(to name a few), and has established itself as a strong but informal network contributing to the better appreciation of the importance of technology management for both research and industry practice.

3. The Scope and Purpose of the 11th International Forum

3.1 . The IFTM Forum offers a unique opportunity for practitioners and academics to meet on neutral ground to share ideas, new research based evidence, and consider opportnities for mutual advancement. The 11th Forum will reflect that spirit.

3.2. In investigating a new subject area, which threatens to change the way people think and act, it is appropriate that new research and practitioner evidence on Information and communication Technologies (ICT), and especially its relationship with new venture creation and entrepreneurship, be discussed and disseminated as widely as possible. Also of critical importance is the enormity of the scope of ICT linked activities. For this reason, academic and practitioner-led discussion will aim to cover a wide range of subjects (see ‘Contents’ below) , including, inter-alia, the following:

4. Structure, Content and Call for Papers

4.1. The forum will be structured in a way that provides for optimal interaction

between academics and practitioners. Wherever, feasible individual plenary sessions will be led by a leading academic speaking alongside a key representative of business and industry. Their joint contributions will inform the parallel sessions that follow These sessions will also feature a mix of presentations highlighting academic research alongside leading edge practice in industry. Each parallel session will allow for in-depth discussion and dialogue between participants.

    1. Presentations will be based on papers submitted to and selected by the 11th Forum’s Technical Committee. Papers will be allocated to different tracks drawn from the topicality and the breadth of the main theme. Authors are expected to submit papers in any of 2 streams which demonstrate either
    1. rigorous conceptual and/or empirical research (academic contributions) – Stream 1
    2. or

    3. reflective practice which considers the context of recent actitivity and individual or organisational insight into such practice (contributions from industry practitioners) – Stream 2
    1. Stream 1 - Form for Academic Contributions - All academic papers should follow the standard format for refereed conferences and publications, and should include a short abstract, an introduction, a short and relevant literature review, a discussion of methodology, a presentation of research evidence, a conclusion, and where appropriate, policy recommendations. All references should be shown using the Harvard format, and a list of references should be attached to the paper. Papers should not be more than 5,000 words

      1. Stream 2 - ‘Reflective practice’ papers by industry practitioners should include a narrative section, introducing the paper, explaining the context, scope and purpose, an ‘exposition section’ discussing and presenting the key technologies under consideration and their management within an organisation or various organisations, strategic considerations, and a conclusion. Appropriate recommendations may also be included.
      2. Choice and Selection of Papers
      1. Papers for either stream may address any topic under the following themes:

5. Location

5.1. Bangalore in South India has emerged as one of the most exciting and

entrepreneurial places for ICT software based development in the world. The city provides India a new economic life line and the world an opportunity to think about the nature and scope of the new economy, its new players, its new ideas, and its new geometry.

      1. An entrepreneurial culture drives the development referred to above, and for this reason alone, Bangalore has been identified as the next location for the conference. Bangalore’s temperate climate, and it many historical associations also offers a pleasant environment, in and out of the city, for visitors to work and play with time and pleasure. International access to the city is easy and regular, with various international flights connecting Bangalore to the major Indian cities and to other destinations in the world.
